Which substitute traction tire to choose? | O Gauge Railroading On Line Forum

The traction tire for my engine is no longer available. There are two recommended substitutes. Both have the same ID and width, but one is slightly thicker (deeper) and one is slightly thinner (shallower) than the original. Which is the better choice?

I tend to go with the thinner ones, especially if the clearance between the wheel and brake shoes is fairly small. I've seen Lionel stuff shipped from the factory with tires that were too thick and they would bind on the brake shoes with predictable results.

I look at diameter. These things stretch. My vote is to go with the next smallest diameter.
