This event will make for a great weekend getaway.  Escape from the winter doldrums and start your spring season off on the right foot.  There is plenty of train related activities and non-train reLated activities in the area?  Take the whole family for a serendipitous weekend vacation.   If you like NASCAR, real trains, Lionel Trains or shopping, this is a trip worth taking.

Meet with TW Design's talented Traingineer  Roger Farkash and learn about scenarary and layout construction.  Meet with LCCA's Bill Schmeelk to see and learn more about the Lionel/LCCA Fas Track Modular Railroad system.  Or, just shop and get great deals on Lionel Product! The choices are yours.

We hope to see you there.

Al K.

Hi Al and Lou, Lets see great buys on Lionel toy trains, that sounds pritty good. Meet with some of the OGR web gang, that's cool. Get to talk to TW design and other hooby giants, ok you got my interest. Friday train ride and Nascar, well maybe I'll take some vacation time.

But, when you tell me that the great Ed Boyle is going to be there, I'm flat out in!

Oh the struggle, my son has a Science Olympiad tournament in Hickory on that Saturday... to go or not to go...  leaning towards going now (have wife approval).  I joined LCCA when this event was just a rumor.  The building is only a 14 mile drive for me.

A small suggestion, if you're bringing the family consider staying a Great Wolf Lodge (http://www.greatwolf.com/concord/waterpark), they have a great indoor water park.  And, someone might want to look at the "activities" listed on the LCCA web site:  IBM, TIAA CREF, Food Lion Corp, Eaton, Wells Fargo?  These really do not strike me as destinations for the significant other and/or kids.  Also, Carowinds opens for the Season on Friday, March 29th, the weekend after this event.

And, a small note, NASCAR Speed Park, Dave & Busters, and Bass Pro are all at Concord Mills, along with a LEGO store.

We are still firmly in the "undecided" corner.

Most likley both of my kids will be in the middle of their various after school sports activities and as I mentioned previously my 10 year old son just moved up from Cub Scouts to Boy Scouts and that weekend is the big Merit Badge event for the year.

(He is going to Scout camp this year so he can earn a badge or two there if needed).

The LCCA is at  least a 6.5 hour drive for us.........but if it were strictly up to me, I would GO!  Trying to figure out which would be more meaningful for my son!

Hi GUYS,

NEAL Lou  will have to answer that.

I am sure there is more info to follow about this event.

Santa Fe VA In case you don't know it but we do a BOY SCOUT event at our conventions ,they earn a badge for it. Maybe we can work something in at this event.

In any event you need to come on down.

This is just getting bigger and bigger. So you don't want to miss it.

Regarding parking, Google maps is your friend there.  I did go to the "First Annual Warehouse Sale" back in December and there was plenty of parking.  Zooming in on Google Maps there is somewhere in the neighborhood of ~250 parking spaces.  Also, you are literally just down the road from Charlotte Motor Speedway so there is lots of "grass parking" in the immediate area.

My question will be are we entering through the front door or, like the warehouse sale, the back door?

Sal....thanks for the response.  Unfortunately, that date is a conflict too as I believe the convention is the same exact week as Summer Scout camp this year!    Can I be on your scheduling committee?!!!!

Take NASCAR Speed Park off the list, they closed (today?) and were in the process of clearing out the facility today.  We had purchased all day tickets for today, it's my son's birthday, so it was quite the surprise when we arrived!

What was the reason for the closing?

Allan,

The manager of NASCAR Speed Park said the mall no longer wanted them as a tenant.  I apparently have not kept up on the local news, but it would seem we are getting an aquarium in that location sometime in 2014:

"Merlin Entertainments Group, an English company, would operate the aquarium, which would be a tenant of Concord Mills. The aquarium would be accessible from inside the mall and would be located where the NASCAR SpeedPark attraction is now, Padgett said"
