This weekend in Owosso, MI.  It will have 1225 and 765 operating as well as several smaller steam engines.  There is also an airshow with a B-17, a B-25 and a P-51 (you can buy rides in all 3 aircraft); and there is a car show too.  http://www.michigansteamtrain.com/expo2014/

Maybe a get together for Forum members - check the following post: https://ogrforum.com/t...r-at-train-expo-2014

I'll be there on Friday.

Since I'm coming down from Up North I won't get there until about 11 am.  Charlie and John, I have your cell numbers so we can hook up sometime while there.  I've got a ticket for one of the short train rides and also will head over to check out the B-25 & B-17.   I've got a special interest in the B-25 as my Dad flew on those in the Pacific (Air Apaches).

I was talking to my work colleagues, and they have lived here in Michigan for many years, and they have never heard of this event.

I agreed that the advertisement and scheduling is very poorly done.

Nobody could find a schedule of events in one area of the internet. Locations of the exhibits are non existent. Can anyone suggest a website that gives a calendar events for the following:

Car show location and time?

Air show location and time?

Restaurants, BBQ, etc.?

Kids attractions and rides?

Camping areas?

Hotels?

I can find details on some of the train rides and purchase tickets in advance, but that is it.

Can anyone recommend a website with maps, times and locations I can print out at work here and post?

Thanks....

Andrew

Seems pretty minimal for the experience that can be had.

I drove over 3 hours each way and it was definitely worth it!!!  Spent 7 hours there.

However, yeah - it would be nice to take a train to the show.

Had a great time!  Rode on the one hour train trip with Little River RR Pacific 110, watched 765 coming in (blowing perfect smoke rings!), and saw it hand off its train to 1225. watched two double headed tank engines pull another train out of the way, plus the beautiful Levithan in steam and much other railroad activity. Sometimes you didn't know which way to look!  (7 standard gauge locos in steam at once!)  The B-17 and the P-51B made several flybys along with an antique biplane. Talked with a lot of interesting people, plus met up with MichRR714 & family and Jdaddy and most of his family.  Later in the day went to the airport and got close & personal with the WW2 aircraft (thanks to my travelling buddy GTW and his press pass - thanks Neil!)... including a thorough tour of the B-25 Mitchell, given by its rather attractive female pilot (she is a 737 captain for Southwest).  My Dad flew combat missions on B-25's in the Pacific theater, and I can't wait to show him the photo of this Mitchell pilot!  Afterwards we went to the Wrought Iron Grill for supper, it's located right on the active tracks and arrived just in time to see 1225 returning from its excursion.  Appropriately they had 1225 IPA beer on tap, plus great food.

Absolutely worth the trip!
