My modeling era is circa 1950.  I have a small rural town for my layout.  I want the town to have a barber shop.  I already have a bar...but afterall...the guys need to have another place to "shoot the breeze" and get a haircut!  Any barber building kit recommendations?  Tnx, Matt

Here's one...even animated!

However, you'll probably have to search the secondary market.  It was featured in the 2004 Vol 1 Lionel catalogue.

If you're into building your own, here's another option...

Nice kit, too!

FWIW, always...

Yes.  I'd like to know what's available for the interior as well.  There's several options on structures that could become a barber shop just by changing the signage.

I have been working on a Barber Shop idea using our #865 Ameri-Towne bldg, Linda's Boutique. You can't tell from the catalog photo, but the front is done in a  Art Deco Sunburst deco, that is perfect for a Barbershop.  That part of the kit comes in a single gray color like the #868 Police Station.

I teamed up the front of the #865 with an operating Barber Pole from Miller Engineering and the end result is great (in my opinion, at least). The Art Deco Sunburst should be done in in silver or aluminum, but I haven't got to that yet.

The smaller of the two barber poles offered by Miller Engineering works best. I put it on the the left side of the Barbershop front.

I will try to get Rich to put a picture of it in this thread.

I'm going to be building a layout that portrays circa 1887 Itasca, Il from a sketch of the town streets and buildings at that time.  One building is listed as a barber shop and calaboose.  After a trip to the dictionary I discovered that a calaboose is a one stall jail.  I am planning on building the Bar Mills Buster's barbershop and adding a one stall room with bars on the window and door for the calaboose.

There's no photo/artwork.  But, I happen to know from experience that if you contact Keil Line directly, John (I believe that's his name) will probably be gracious enough to send you a photo of one of his barber chairs.  Someone suggested this may be a chair modeled after those on premier passenger trains offering a barber service.  However, who's gonna argue/know??  Make do, make do, make do.
