Now when I go to add pictures and I click on the Upload Atachments, it opens a file chooser window. Then when I click on the Select Files link I get a window that asks if I am sure I want to navigate away from this site. What?

Then if I choose OK, the window closes and nothing happens. If I choose Cancel, I am back to the file chooser window.

Attaching pictures has never been a problem before; now this.

Anyone know what the problem is? Help!

God I just love it when things change for no reason and stop working.

So I tried the cookie and cache cleaning thing, and rebooted, and ...........no joy.

When I try to upload a picture it opens a file chooser window with a Select Files link; which does absolutely nothing when I click on it.

Rich I see a few folks posted on the other thread on this subject, that they had tried Firefox, and then abandoned it for various reasons. So I am hesitant to go this route.

This old main box of mine is Vista 32 bit, IE 8, and I use AVG anti virus, and Malwarebytes. All elements in Windows security are on and working, or so it says.

A couple of weeks ago I had a security issue, so I watch it closely now.

I think I am going to try turning off windows firewall and see if I can upload pictures.

Its too bad Hoopla didn't make their new whiz-bang html thingy backwards compatible with previous versions of IE.

Windows Vista is FOUR versions behind the times! Same with IE 8! No wonder you are having problems!

It is not realistic to think that everything is going to be backwards compatible, especially going that far back. It's time to update to at least Windows XP Pro, which is also behind the times and outdated, but it works. You should really go to Windows 7 and Firefox. Stay away from Windoze 8.1.

We use Firefox on every computer here at OGR and I use it at home and on my laptop. We have no problems with it whatsoever.

So I checked the Windows update site and found IE9 available for Vista.

In the blurb it mentioned that it handles html5 whatever, so I figured why not?

After the download I restarted and then opened up IE9.

It looks pretty much the same as my much newer Laptop which runs Windows 7, so that is a plus. I was also pleased to see that all the previous bookmarks etc are intact.

Next I opened up OGR and tried out the picture uploading.

Guess what? Works perfectly! What a relief.

I will still likely upgrade to Windows 7 soon anyway, but for now it seems to work.

So for anyone else out there having troubles uploading pictures to this site, try upgrading to at least IE9. It just may work for you.

Rich has covered this ground several times now.

Vista is not the preferred choice of Windows operating systems.

Trust me, as an IT Professional for a fortune 500 company, I know a thing or two about this topic.

Allow me to share this with you:

In November 2009, I was attended a Microsoft sponsored event, "Seven Fest", for the launch of Windows 7.

When the Microsoft speaker got up to talk, the first sentence he spoke was,
"Today we not here to celebrate the launch of Windows 7, but to celebrate that we can stop selling Vista!"

The recommendation is to upgrade to Windows 7.

It's clearly a choice and I respect which way a person wishes to go.

If a person chooses not to accept the friendly advice offered, then stress and aggravation is what one will need to accept.

That information is over four years old.

If a person is going to stay with Microsoft products, why not go with Windows 8.1?

I am writing this on a Windows 8.0 laptop (8.1 upgrade is not recommended by the manufacturer), but I also have a Windows XP workstation. Its a little slow, but it still does everything I need.

Gotta' go with Rich on this one, Windows 7 is the "pick of the litter" right now.  It's in keeping with Microsoft's habit of producing a klinker for every other version of Windows!

I loaded Windows 8 on a test machine, it lasted about three days!  The 8.1 update went about 1/4 of the way to restoring a decent desktop experience, but it's really grafted on the Metro interface and not native like Windows y.

I agree John and Rich about Windows 8. I have seen this system on our inlaws laptop, and no thanks! Don't like the tablet style interface at all.
I have been running Windows 7 for about 2 years now on my working/travelling laptop, and it is just fine; no complaints. So I will likely pick up a W7 upgrade package for the Vista machine and upgrade, which may also allow a further IE upgrade.

I wouldn't completely rule out Firefox; its just that if I don't need to switch to it, I am not going to. I am sensitive these days to arbitrarily loading any kind of new software, just for fun, so as to avoid unecessary "system bloat" and sloth-like performance.

Meanwhile thanks to all for the help; we are back in business.
