Barry,

Have you tried your new programmable remote controls with your DCS layout yet?

How do you like them and do they work correctly, I am thinking about purchasing a couple sets, to control everything form the layout, to the Christmas tree and most of the living room lighted decorations.

The programmable aspect of these 5 remotes looks real interesting.

Dave,

Yes, I am using them and they work very well. Although the programming instructions were not nearly as good as I would have liked them to be, it is extremely easy to program the outlets.

I set up all 5 outlets to turn on and off together as outlet #1 and that's just what they do. All that's necessary to do is to plug each outlet, one at a time, into an AC outlet, press a button on the outlet and press one of the "ON" buttons on either remote. This programs the outlet to that button on both remotes. You cannot program an outlet to be one number on one remote and a different number on another remote.

Power for my layout comes from a single 15 amp line into a rather robust APC UPS and from there goes to a standard AC 15 amp switch that's in a surface mount box on the side of the layout. From the AC switch, power goes to 5 outlets that each feed power strips.

I simply plugged each power strip into one of the remote controlled outlets and plugged each outlet into where it's now-associated power strip was plugged in previously.

Now, I keep one of the two remote controls sitting on the layout and the other one at the work area off the train room. I can turn the entire layout on and off from either location just by pressing remote "ON" button #1 on either remote, and off by pressing the corresponding "OFF" button on either remote.

At present, I have no need for buttons 2-5.

Barry,

Thank you sir very much that is exactly what I wanted to know before investing in them.  I now have 2 sets of the Stanley non programmable that will be used for my ladies Christmas lighting, and tomorrow I will order the set you found, thanks again buddy, hope your Christmas was wonderful and have a fantstic New Years.

Greg,

We did not mean to confuse anyone or shield any knowledge, this is a follow up

thread to a Stanley wireless remote control on off electrical system, that I posted in a prior thread.  Barry found an even more complex Etekcity Remote wireless system with 5 programmable plug in units.  Barry and I were talking about how they functioned with the DCS, if you reread the thread you should now understand what was going on.

These wireless remotes are way cool, and can be used for layout initiation and emergency shut down at a push of one button.  I wanted to know if Barry had tested the units he purchased, and what he thought of them before I invested in a couple sets of them myself.  You just got to love this OGR forum for this kind of educational communication.
