I have  a factory wired 256 Lionel  double  Prewar engine it uses type 5 motors (2)

It uses separate switches and their independent power for each motor I would like both motors to run the same , When  first pulling out or at throttle.

I think todays electronic uses cruise control to synchronize both motors to turn at the same

time,   Wondering if that would work  for this prewar  motors  or wiring in serial  might help to have both motors start and run the same .thanks for the info ...daniel

There is no cruise available for AC motors. 256 is a funny creature, I’m not sure how much room you even have for something like an ERR AC commander,….you’d have to check the available space, or designate a permanent trailing car, and tether that to your 256, so you can have space for the electronics. I’d also want to know just how power hungry those two motors are, and I’d make sure they’re perfectly tuned, and start pretty close to another on straight AC track power before graduating to an electronics package,……there is a vast improvement on how well AC motors run with an ERR AC Commander, so that’d be the first thing I might look into,…..also, companies like Dallee Electronics offer higher amperage electronic E-units that would work for this as well,…..and lastly, on the bay, someone offers an E unit board capable of AC motors, but I’m not 100% sure of its amperage rating, ….but it could be worth looking into, or even perhaps wiring in 2 of them ( 1 for each motor ) and keeping them in sync,….

Running and operating are two different enjoyments, however if you're operating your prewar 256 and pull out slow you can see one motor doing all the work , running my eyes don't notice any rotation difference.   .lol

But so far I have all new gears brushes  wheels etc..  before I got this ...someone made a sleeve for the armature the other does not have it

I angled  the brush plate tabs  downs  till  the motor sounded the best , on the bench

I'm asking Hemmings to see if they have a replacement brush holder  next..  Thanks for the info!  daniel
