I’m sorry if this has been asked before, but I couldn’t find an answer.
If I have the app on my iPhone and iPad, will I have to add the trains to each device or will they appear on both when loading on one or the other?

you have to load them to each device.
You could make a copy of an engine list using the MTH consumer loader, and load it to a computer. Then download that to each device. I would suggest that if you have many, many engines. Otherwise, just load to each. Make sure the addresses stay the same on each device or you'll have issues later on.
