I would like to try this as it would be not very costly. What do you think this guy used to mount the LED's to? How did he bend it?

I suppose it is mounted to aluminum bar, found at building centers. Mounted to one side of the work bench then carefully bent over and attached to the other side. Allow the springy resistance to remain in the bar, forming a more ridged arch.
I'd replace the aluminum with steel "I" beam curtain rod and notch the bench edge to accept the "I" beam for an even sturdier arch. An 8' length of curtain rod is about $10 up here...probably more like $2 in the States

That curtain rod is a good idea. Thanks. It is hard to find though. Is a drapery shop the place to look? Home depot does not seem to have it.
Try Bed Bath and Beyond.
I like the arch idea, it would give better all around light distribution than a straight overhead bar, less pronounced shadows.

I agree. Worth a shot as it would not cost much. I still have to find the bar and calculate a length.
where did you find the arch photo.
