Which of these transformers would you recommend for a 8by12 layout with 2 separate main lines. I have been using two 1000 MTH transformers, but was wondering if the Williams 1000080 that comes with there sets would be better. Thanks Wally

Wally,
I have to concur with Dale H on this one. IMHO, Save your money for that next locomotive.
The Z-1000 are 100Watts. The WBB is actually an ATLAS 80 Watt transformer.
I have 1 of each. The 80 Watt was in my WBB Lakeshore Limited set. I tested it by running a Lionel and MTH at the same time. No problem on my small 4 x 8 layout.
I have the Atlas version of WBB.
I have noticed some issues running Lionel with railsounds and MTH PS3 locos.
Recently on my MTH the direction button sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. Many times it makes the horn or bell sound instead. Could be the it's the transformer but I don't recall any issues running conventional locos. BTW these weigh alot ... very beefy.
I plan to use this transformer to power one channel on my TIU ...
The WBB appears to be a transformer with a slider = real sine wave. It also appears to have a second adjustable accessory output. That's a nice feature
.... said the guy who has a bunch of Z-1000s.

Actually, it's the other way around. The WBB version is an Atlas-O transformer with a WBB sticker, and $20.00 price increase, on it.
I was able to get an MTH Z-1000 for less then the Atlas or Williams transformer so I bought the Z-1000. The Z-1000 works great with my Williams engines, and has the separate horn & bell buttons.
I would like to try the Atlas or Williams transformer sometime.

Why? If it ain't broke, don't mess with it.
