I currently have DCS set up with my Z4000.
if I plug in the Z4000 remote system into the Z4000, will I be able to control the Z4000 with the Z4000 remote?

Yes you can without problem, I have one DCS Remote control and one Z-4000 Remote and it's perfect.
Yes, you can control the output voltage. You can also use the DCS remote to control it when you have the plug-in receiver.

When using the Z4000 to run a conventional Lionel loco with first generation railsounds, when I use the whistle button on the transformer, the whistle blows and the locomotive does NOT slow down.
When I use the remote system and blow the whistle, will the locomotive slow down?
I am asking this because when I use DCS in variable mode, when I blow the whistle with the DCS remote, the loco does slow down, but it does not when I use the transformer whistle button.
