Why is the age important? It's the condition that is important. If it is a 250W, it was made in 1948-49. If it is a 275W It was made between 1950-66.
You have 2 posts about the same transformer???
I have a ZW 250 and works perfectly. I put new rollers and a whistle rectifier in it when I got it but that's it. I expect it to go another 60 years. Age in these is not much of an issue.

Actually, a 60 year-old transformer does not yield nearly the same power it did in 1950.

I agree. Age is irrelevant. Condition is relevant.

Ron don't tell my transformer that as it still puts out 12 amps @ 18 volts or a little more without a sweat. I have to agree with John. HUH?

thanks i have the 48or 49 model. that to me is very cool thanks for all of your help.
The back side is more telling.
If the red lens is original to the transformer then it is pre 1952 give or take a year.
Also, early 250 watt ZW's came with the translucent red lens as in your photo. Later units had the opaque.
