Very nice additions to the box car line. So the red three left hands in circles meant three new box cars. Okay as Anthony Hopkins said in Reds " I didn't see this one coming". Great job Mark and Menards. Going to crack a bottle of Scotch to celebrate missing my guess again LOL...............Paul
so where does the hand thing fit in?
RadioRon posted:Unless the photography coloring is horribly wrong, does the Penn Central car look "baby blue" to you guys too? Supposed to be greenish, right?
Maybe it's a model of the box cars late in their life when they had faded into that baby blue green???
I needed a box car like a hole in the head.........
But the PC box and nine trees delivered home for about $30 was too much to pass up.
That PC box car weathered will be nice!!!!! Thanks
The Penn Central box car looks like old. faded green to me.

It truly just amazes me that every time Menards introduces a new product, with in the first 2-3 responses, someone is bashing it. It's the wrong color shade, or wrong herald or improperly sized or something. I don't know why Menards even bothers. I hope they don't read this forum or they would be greatly discouraged. They do an excellent job of providing an excellent value of products for our hobby, and there is ALWAYS someone who wants to tear them down right out of the gate. If you don't like it, don't buy it. But PLEASE don't COMPLAIN out it. The vast majority of us appreciate their offerings.
Any PLEASE, no more comments about having Menards put up a store in your back yard, so you don't have to order online. I don't complain that they don't move the YORK show to Iowa, so please don't complain about not having a Menards store in your area.

I agree .as a fellow Iowan you are right on. Where else can you buy a 19.99 boxcar and get 6 trees worth 14.99 for free.
Even better, how about 9 trees?

Sorry other people's opinions bother you, "mustang." But the baby blue Penn Central car looks plain stupid. I have purchased plenty of Menards stuff so far, and do appreciate their efforts. But if it is, in fact, the color as it will be delivered, it is way off. I don't make a practice out of "bashing" Menards, but this was honest first reaction. Remember, this forum is designed to exchange opinions, news and ideas.
Here is a faded Penn Central box car from the fallen flags website.

Mark,
Ive noticed that the Menards in Hodgkins, IL has trains on the shelves. Not a big selection yet, but trains are on the shelves! I've got $80-some in Menards rebate checks ready to be blown on trains. Is the free trees offer included on mail orders only, or in store purchases too? Will the registers know at check out not to charge for trees if I buy freight cars in the store?
Also, is there a way to buy on line, have the order shipped to a store, and then pay with the Menards rebate checks?
Sam
What is wrong with asking a company to open a branch in your town? I think that is a COMPLIMENT, not bashing. Would give us in the Houston area more choice to the two big box supply stores we already have.
Nice box cars.
For the price they are great for weathering and marking with graffiti. A lot of folks would not do that to a new $60.00 or more Lionel box car.
Thank you Menards!

I don't think the PC car is stupid at all. In fact, I see a lighter, faded green and not baby blue, which is what I remember seeing when I was little (those PC cars had quite a bit of fade on them at that point!), plus Athearn in HO would make the 40' PC boxcars in a lighter green as well.
Come payday next week, I'm going to be ordering a few of the PC cars for my layout!

Great! Its time for me to check out the stores in Fox Lake, Woodstock and Palatine. I really like this time of the year.

Hi Sam,
You can use your rebates towards pretty much any train item online as long as you special order at the hardware desk at your local Menards store. All you have to do is request to special order (have the skus you wish to order ready) and the Menards Team Member at the hardware desk will create a special order slip for you. Then, you will bring the slip to the cashier and pay using your rebates!
The free trees are specifically an online offer. However, the special order process basically creates an order for you from our website. Once a train sku ($19.99 or higher) is added, the trees should automatically be added. Just make sure both items are on the special order slip.
I hope this helps!

So Mark,
When can we expect a locomotive? Nothing major, a diesel switcher would be fine! Just something to haul these freight cars and cabooses (cabeese?) around, to make a complete Menard's train!
Dear Menards Mark,
When will the train items be actually in the stores?
Thanks,
Dick

Hi Dick,
Look for trains at the stores around the first week of October.

Menard's,
I just love it when you offer multiple cars. If someone wanted to build a long box car train, your offering of three different cars would be a major plus. Can't wait for your next offering. The more colors the better.

Eddie, I guess the final verdict will be entered when we are able to see some photos of the PC boxcar by guys who have received them. It just could be the the color in the advertising image is off, but it still looks like light blue to me. The photo FalconService posted, to me, shows a weathered, but still green, Penn Central boxcar.
