About five years ago Stan2004 posted this picture,
Can Stan or someone else tell me where to connect the caps to add the delay? I tried connecting it in series with the output from the IR module and the input to the relay and it doesn't work. The IR module I have is active low and the relay module does trigger when the IR module goes low but I really need the delay keep the IR output low during the space between the cars.

then put it on the ir in parallel, it will keep ir lower while it charges its self.

Thank you. A 470 microF cap in parallel gave me about 2 to 3 seconds. Plenty of time for even the slowest train.
If anyone cares, here's a picture of the whole thing. The IR source and detector were removed form the purchased assembly and installed between the ties of Atlas track.
