Drove the 40 miles to the Amtrak White Sulfur Springs station. My son was coming in from Huntington WV so he and I could drive our Mustangs to the 50th anniversary meet in Charlotte this weekend. Trains was only 10 minutes late, good as my last run on #50 was 8 hours late!
On the way home we stopped by Dad's ro say hi. Dad then told us about him riding the train home while a student at Marshall U in Huntington.
As he told about riding the train often as his folks didn't own a car back then.....he remembered that his last trip on the train was Spring Break 1954....almost exactly 60 years ago! The difference was Dad got off the train and got on another that took him the 40 miles we had to drive in a car up the Greenbrier Valley....but still cool that our family has been riding these rails, and still can, for over 60 years....
Just a cool thought....
