i was hoping to purchase both items, there seems to be an abundance of crain cars but no boom cars. have they been discontinued? why doesn't lionel sell them as a set? i won't buy one without the other, it doesn't make sence.

Sidetrack Hobbies has both listed on their website, You'll have to call to make sure thats truly the case.301-475-5381 I recall a similar issue when Lionel released the CP rail crane and boom car, I got tired of waiting and pickied up one of the older TMCC crane/boom cars with the steam sounds as opposed to diesel.

I was afraid of that, these are scarce. If it was me I'd probably just go down the line of O guage shops in magazines or local phone book and just see if maybe one of the smaller stores has one sitting on the shelf.
