Here are a couple videos I shot.  Wished I brought a tripod.  Movie Maker took out most of the shake...  Taken after she returned from the 8am-12:30pm excursion from Manassas to Front Royal on Saturday.

The second video was after she dropped off the passenger cars and was moving to the display area for the Railway Festival.  The VRE excursion train was pulling along side at the end.

I rode the 611 last year out of Manassas. Having another railfan trip planned for later this month, plus a new SUV purchase, new brakes for my current sedan, and plenty of other train and non-train costs, riding wasn't in the cards this year. A beautiful trip it is out to Front Royal. Hopefully there will be a next time for the 611 in Manassas, contrary to many rumors circulating that this was the 611's last trip to Manassas, even her last mainline outing.

I was selected and offered for a car host spot on Sunday but my schedule changed and I was just not able to commit to it. However, an early morning wake up call found me on the 40 minute drive to Manassas to see the 611. I saw it pull in, leave and then on my way back out to I-66, got a good spot at a crossing to watch the train run all out towards Front Royal. What a machine this is! I LOVE those big side rods! Just incredible!

When I was commuting via DC Metro and MARC train for many years, I passed right through the Amtrak yards surrounding Union Station. I saw LOTS of private rail cars over the years. Many in fact, where on this train. A few I hadn't seen before, the Pennsy and Texas Special really caught my interest - what BEAUTIFUL cars!

What kills me is that my brother lives in Haymarket. He saw 611 going by when he was gassing up his SUV near the tracks and caught it at a grade crossing.

Didn't chase, didn't ride.

Odder still, he has a massive collection of steam locomotive builder's plates and he's not even a big train buff! He has them because he is into metal casting and likes the craftsmanship in the old ones, and that's the only reason he has them. Doesn't display them, they're in a large Tupperware container and never sees the light of day...
