Hello all. 1st post on here. I am  just getting back into trains. I took the plunge and bought a pair of NW switchers, one ATSF, the other a Chesapeake & Ohio on ebay. The C&O switcher has missing letters. From looking on the forum I saw the Micro decal suggestion and went to that site. Can I just replace missing O and  &, and any other letters or do i need to replace whole name. Additionally, best practices for either process?

Hi Rob- welcome to the forum. Those are both good looking engines. I have the ATSF 623 and it is one of my favorites. I also have a newer version of the C&O 624 too. Can't offer any help on the decals but have you serviced the engines? The motor should be cleaned and lubricated. Same for the rollers and wheels. The e-units get sticky and should be cleaned and lubed too.

Someone here will chime in to help you with the decals. Enjoy!

Bob

The ebay post said they had been lubed and run but i will get manuels and do it again before it hits track. Otherwise.

This all started with a conversation, a model railroad show and a thought to have a small starter set, then I took the wife with me. I m up to 3 trains, a 4x8x7 platform in a 900 sqft apartment chasing childhood memories. I grew up in pittsburgh so my lines are going to be anything pitt lake erie ches ohio or any of the other trains i can remember from childhood. That set is still there with family.

Welcome back to the hobby.  I've used MicroScale decals in the past and have been very pleased with the results.  A quick check of their website show Product #48-76 to be very close to your needs.  The only way to determine whether to replace the single "O" and "&" is to buy the set and see how it matches up.  Be sure to buy the kit with the different MicroScale products; you'll be better off in the long run.  Directions are on each decal set.  Be sure to follow them.  I suggest you make a few practice tries on some other equipment to hone your skills.  Good Luck!

Jeff Kane and Lou Palumbo will have the decals that match those of the Post War engine. You can use Microscales assuming you can find them but they may not match. Depends if you want to a restoration or just have a C&O NW2.

Thanks Norton:

I went to Microscales and found what looks like a very close match. Already am talking to Jeff and will stay in touch with him. As to Restoration, I don't necessarily just want a a C&O NW2, having said that if removing old decal and putting a new on in place is not an overly tedious ordeal I could do it. My balance will be, is it worth waiting and running it for a short time as is, until I can find a relatively affordable restoration, Doing it myself with what jeff has. That's where I'm at. Thanks for everything.

Additionally anyone that knows of someone willing to take on small restoration projects near Jacksonville fl. Let me know.

Rob, you can do a decal. If not sure there are many demonstrations on youtube.

Your engines actually look pretty nice and don't appear to need a full restoration.

This is one I did quite a while ago. The cab number and logo are original with new decals on the hood. The cab and hood were repainted while the frame is original.

Thanks Sir. I have a cousin in Pitts. He suggested getting some walthers decal remover or just use Hot water and toothbrush.
