And each number board was lit with three incandescent bulbs.  The only reason I know this is that I took a movie of NKP #700 at track speed one summer evening in 1957 and the number board on the engineer's side of the smokebox was fully open, and I photographed the bulbs.

The number boards on each side of the headlight casing, on the other hand, were painted over in black, on every NKP Berk I ever saw.  Models always seem to get this wrong, but it is easy to correct!
