I have finally gotten the hang of using the Cab-1L system with my trains. I noticed the Cab-1L Base has a 9 pin computer port on it. I know on the Legacy #990 Base there is this same connector that is used to update the system. Does the Cab-1L base's 9 pin connector serve the same purpose? If someone could help me with this I would be very appreciative.

No the Base 1L does not have an upgrade procedure that we know of (Lionel may be able to). The 9 pin basically serves the same purpose of the TMCC to connect serial devices or in the case of a Legacy base to connect to other serial devices or LCS modules.

The DB-9 Serial port you are referring to on all three bases can also be used by any software someone decides to write to send/receive TMCC and Legacy commands.
