I'd like to add a pickup roller or two to this tender. Is there any "drop-in" parts to do this, or will I have to go custom and create a solution.
Here's a couple of shots of the tender trucks.

We tried adding a pickup to a PS1 Blue Comet but ran into alot of problems with clearances. I finally removed the addition and ran a tether to a baggae car and used its pickups Was Much simpler solution
That's not what I want to hear Ben!
I see that clearances will be tight, that's why I was wondering if there was some solution I wasn't aware of. I may just have to live with the locomotive pickups.
john bring the tender over to night.
??? I may be able to help.
Harry, you got it.
Waiting to see the fix, my 12 wheeled tender could use the same thing...MTH didn't like to add too many pick ups, did they.
...add, my 0-8-0 could use it too...yeah, it's an MTH.
You know, maybe that's why these MTH engines get alot of check track issues for lack of good contact...maybe its me...
If you remove the center wheelsets, you will have much more room.
This is a very interesting thread, please post the out come. I would really like to see how it turns out.

Replace with a 6 wheel passenger car truck?
I swapped a single roller with a double roller on one of my older MTH engines and it solved the problem of needing an extra pickup to span dead spots in switches.

Well, I don't really want to do that, that's a last resort.
Reliability over switches, and also the tether wires are fairly small going to the tender, so I'd like the electronics to have a lower resistance feed from the tracks.
John, Would this work?
If you go to the Lionel parts site and search on "collector" you will get literally hundreds of hits.
Pete
I actually have a couple of those Pete, there's no clearance for that kind of roller. That's the first ones I thought of.
