I guess this was the driver's lucky day. I would never get in a car again with this driver if I was one of the passengers.

The driver should loose their license.
The word is "lose" and yes, I agree he should lose his license.
He played very fast and loose with the law.

Certainly was. A nearly identical accident happened here with virtually the same damage done to the car but the driver was not so lucky.

Um...this was posted to the "Real Trains" Forum (or it was moved). It is certainly relevant to our discussions here.
WOW!!!! I see the gates were down and they had lights but I didn't hear any horn. Maybe it was just the news person talking over the horn but I didn't hear it. Did anyone hear a horn? Just curious. No excuse for their actions.

It must be open season on Amtrak trains(story in link). The youngster that did this near us Monday was not so fortunate as to survive, however.
This is just amazing.....what has happened to common sense....are people just getting "stupider"? This could have ended much worse!

The engineers and train crews have to be subjected to this on a daily basis and I can only imagine how hard it has to be on them. The driver's actions hurt a lot of people and he didn't seem to be too shook up over it either.
I think it is very relevant to the real trains forum.

This kind of thing reminds me of the individuals that will not listen to the turn around don't drown as we see all the high water rescues going on down south.
What 's shocking is that the driver received only a $300 ticket for going around the gates. That fine should be $10,000 for endangering the lives of his passengers.

You're just noticing now that people are getting stupider? I deal with people that have college degrees that couldn't pour stuff out of a boot if the directions were printed on the heel.
