I know these are brand new and probably haven't shipped yet but I'm going to ask anyway, can these engines go around 0-36 with 18" passenger cars behind them. I'm planning on getting a powered unit and a cabbage of course with passenger cars. If I ran the powered and cabbage back to back and have the cars behind them, how well would that work? I know a lot of these engines with semi fixed pilots need 0-54 but they can do tighter depending on what's behind them.

Hi Matt • The catalog shows 0-54 - minimum curve. There may be issues on a 0-36.
The cabbage should be at the end of the train, like the prototype. Hope this helps, after you take delivery, please keep us posted.

I need to know it works before I take delivery. I don't want to spend the money on these to find out that they don't work.
Im pretty sure they wont work with 036 curves, especially with 18 inch cars behind them.
Alright. I think I'm going to shoot Dave Olson an email just to be sure.
It is rated for O54. They are 18" passenger cars. Why would you think they would run on 036 curves? I mean, be sensible.

I said that becuase the other engines recently cataloged with the semi fixed pilots (SD45, SD40-2s and others) can run on 0-36 just you need to be careful what you run behind them since the couplers need to have room to swing.
I just got a reply from Dave Olson from Lionel stating that these engines can run on 0-36 curves. I'm in for them!
Matt is correct on coupler swing.
Even on 072 I have found that truck mounted fixed couplers on a car may derail if coupled to the locomotive with a semi-fixed pilot.
Therefore I run a car with an articulated coupler behind this type of loco. (for example, this type of coupler is on postwar Lionel aluminum passenger cars)
