Amtrak's revived Winter Park Ski Train - any tips | O Gauge Railroading On Line Forum

I just booked a one day round trip from Denver to Winter Park on Amtrak's Winter Park Express for later in March. Apparently it's doing quite well as they have hauled over 15,000 passengers in the half season since its 7 Jan first run. I'd like to hear any feedback/tips you may have with regard to breakfast at Union Station (skis load starting at 6:15, train departs at 7) and advisability of leaving bags on the train while skiing. I understand people start to put their ski boots on when the train enters Mofat Tunnel. 10 minutes later the train stops at the ski area station (right outside the west portal). You disembark, claim your skis and then walk 150 yards to the first chair lift - sounds good! I'm looking forward to both the train ride and the skiing- two of my passions. Hopefully the sky will be Colorado Blue that day so I can take some decent photos to post on the forum.

Ed,Any chance that some of the best conditions in years would have anything to do with it ? Wish this beat-up old body could still ski.

Take pictures of the day's skiers in cars mulling through the slow traffic on I-70 East Bound after 4:30 or 5:00.....while you RELAX on a train?
