I ask about a 'smoking animated' billboard several years ago. A reminder of days long gone. A figure from the late '40's, like 'Father knows Best' type of guy with a arm and pipe that moves and he takes a 'puff' from the pipe. Why not a limited edition of some kind? Gotta admit it would be 'Kool' for us who remember seeing them. (In movies....I'm too young to remember seeing a real one.)
I remember a cigarette sign in downtown Milwaukee that blew out smoke rings every few seconds. As a little kid, to me it was really impressive. Not sure of the brand of smoke that was advertised, maybe Lucky Strike, maybe Camels, but, now that was a sign that I would love to have on the layout. Granted, it would cost a bloody fortune because, now, you have to have a smoke generator, a "puffer" of sorts, and, of course, also a lighted sign. Several different types of power needed.

But if Miller Engineering ever decided to really go after the "big one" and reproduce a sign like that, it would be pretty high on my "must have" list. Wish I could find a photo of that famous sign. It was mounted on top of a store building on Wisconsin Ave., had a picture of a man making a large "0" with his mouth which was connected to the smoke generator.

Interesting idea, an operating smoke unit as part of the sign would make it all more interesting! For any of the above.

Love those Miller products; I picked up some Lemax 4.5 volt power supplies on sale over the holidays. They have 4 outputs that can be spliced in for the power supply for the Miller signs instead of batteries! Were on sale in early January for about $5 each with 4 leads on each.

I agree with Skip that the Madison Hardware would be great and a sellout.

Secondly I'd love to see an S&H Green Stamp small/medium sign similar in size to the double side YMCA sign. Either the store version or the S&H Green Stamp store version or the "We Give ..." version. Big Grin

Another good choice would be signs of former automobile companies/dealerships including DeSoto, Packard, Pontiac, Oldsmobile, Studebaker, etc. These need not be the large billboard size, rather small or medium (no bigger than the Sherwin Williams or Bowling Alley).
