I know that sometimes we in the model train hobby get our hackles up when we receive a brand new engine delivered in less than perfect condition. "How can this happen when it cost so much?" we might ponder. I too have had the occasional issue with Lionel quality control on a few past purchases. Sooooo...just to even the score I thought I'd take the time to post the fact that my latest purchase is perfect in every way!

Today I received from Charles Ro my long awaited 6-85059 Lionel LionChief + MKT NW2 #7.

This engine has the dependable LionChief plus control system. It's simple and reliable. (I also have lots of Legacy engines so I know the limitations of this system). The paint is perfect, it smokes like the dickens, the sound of the horn, bell, crew and tower talk are clear and loud. Directions for the adjustment of the volume using the remote is correctly stated in the manual. The electrocouplers front and rear open wide when selected and easily couple to a closed knuckle car. The headlight and rear cab light are directional and when in reverse two red marker lights illuminate on the front hood. The packaging was well thought out with two foam pads installed between the front and rear railings and the engine shell. I have owned an example of the older MKT NW2 engines and the difference in operation, paint and graphics is huge. Add to all this that the engine can be controlled via Bluetooth and it's a home run.

I AM A HAPPY CAMPER!

So, even though we all expect our train purchases  to be perfect every time upon delivery, maybe the next time you receive an engine or car that meets all your expectations take the time to post on this forum how Manufacturer (insert name here) got it just right.

It would be great if you could post a couple photos of the actual engine. I was considering this engine because of a memory thing - I took my two sons on board such a switcher at a MKT yard years ago. We were looking at the yard, and were invited on board the engine for a "tour" by the engineer (who happened to be retiring the next day).

I picked up the CB&Q version NW2 a couple months ago (managed to find one from a remote dealer after months of searching - it came out some time ago) and have been running it continuously on the Christmas layout (it pushs the dummy lead unit). Like yours, the finish was flawless and the performance has been flawless. This is an earlier version NW2 without the Bluetooth.

As long as you don't order a road name that has spark arrestors on top of the stack you may be right. I got the SRR version and can't get the arrestors off to add smoke fluid. Called Charles Ro where I bought it and they are just  putting them on display and call back next week when they have a chance to look at them.
