So.....in other words....you don't go out much!!!

Not train related...but today before the NASCAR race I drove to town and got a Sub sandwich to eat during the race. While in line a 20 something ski bunny looks at me and asks 'Are you local?' Always the friendly helpful type I said 'Yes'.   I got 'Soooo.....like.....it must really SUCK to live here .....right?'  Rude knows no days or location.

So where do you live???  Maybe it really does suck to live there -- the girl may be right.  LOL

I wasn't looking for bargains, but  found it hard to beat the enjoyment of Davis Trains on Black Friday.  Joe's 0-72 layout was in operation, the crowds in the tiny town of Millford, OH, were friendly, the four store wide, two story train shop was filled with wonderful trains of all scales, with the emphasis on Joe's favorite, 0 Gauge.  And when you had dined on this feast you headed a few blocks on foot to see Joe's giant Standard Gauge layout open house. All that plus Jim Barrett behind the counter or conducting a helpful seminar. No rude people; just plain good folk and lots and lots of trains!  Boy I miss David Trains.  Dick

I would agree.  The "rude, discourteous people" thing is largely a stereotype perpetuated as part of the Black Friday "hype" -- particularly at the huge shopping malls.

True... people can be at less-than-their-best when crowds get too large for comfort, or the ride to your LHS begins to resemble rush-hour traffic jams.  But I've found our LHS crowds are just plain ole toy train enthusiasts getting into the grand holiday spirit.  Just take everything in stride and you'll be fine.

On the other hand, several stores have special sales extending to their online storefronts... so there's no need to even get in the car nowadays if the mood doesn't strike you.

Have fun everyone!!!

David

Not looking for anything....but 31" Fast Track curves would be nice some day soon!

We are off to see the Trans Siberian Orchestra Friday at 3PM and then a nice dinner just me and my bride of 17 years.. nothing black about this Friday coming up!

Although there is a great (for this area) Trains Show in Old Greenwich on Sunday

I live in very rural part of West Virginia. 1000 square mile county with about 1000 year round residents. These folks were 'outsiders' and with their expensive skis and more expensive Range Rover I guess they have the right to be dumb and rude. I could have moved anyplace on earth and came here. If these tourist don't like it please stay home and complain om FaceSpace or something.

This Sept.

I would kill for a nice local hobby store.  My home town of York, PA has B&E Junction....great people, great setup.  Unfortunately, retiring from the Navy and being 3 hours away kind of prevents the visits from happening.  Then again, going to the one LHS I know of on black Friday that's an hour away, would probably equate to a 3 hour trip North.  Regardless, Happy Thanksgiving friends...

Thanks RT....that picture is on the Greenbrier about a hours drive south of Cass.

I love it here....no McDonalds, no WalMart etc. These 'tourist' were upset because their was no G4 service and their fancy phones may as well have been made of stone....they functioned the same!!!!

People are already camping outside of the big box stores in this area and other places for the Black Friday special. Heck it's only Monday for god sake.

You want to know why these stores are open? I use to blame the stores for opening, no more it's the idiot public that demand it. Heck the local mall will be opening at 12 mid night on thanksgiving. All my shopping is done online so no need to go out anytime soon.

One of the biggest train dealers in this area and the US will be jammed on Friday. Companies only open when the customers demand it, if they didn't demand it they would be closed.

If you make the trip to Dallas, you should visit "Collectible Trains & Toys" in Forney TX. Phil has a lot of O Guage . Need to check his website, he doesn't work every day.

No thanks, not for me. I'm stayin' home, playing with the grandkids and eating left-over turkey.

I am with you Rich!

Since, 1999 I have stopped doing any type of Holiday Shopping in stores...its online or nothing. The only stores I have the patience and interest to go into is Lowe's, Home Depot, and Pet Smart.

Otherwise, its a waste of time and gas....I never store shop just for the sake of shopping I hate it!

well lets see if some stupied shopper at walmarts uses mac again..happened in CA and it happened here at Celina superwalmarts some of the employees got hit in the backs.. 2 old men fighting over a big led TV..cops where called..I just go to see the action..But if I want something.. I grab and go on my marry way without fighting..My wife works 3rd shift stocking this year..lol but got her on stand by for casher since she knows how to do it..So I might be there to make sure she doesnt get hurt!

I'm 57. Last year was the first time I did the Black Friday early thing. I had a blast. My wife and kids all shopped and I meandered along. Got a nice remote helicopter for 19.99. My only purchase. We then went for breakfast. I then got the call that my business was broken into. They got quite a bit. I now equate Black Friday with the theft.  The family will shop, I will sleep or get up real early and play trains till they are back.

And if you do plan to visit CT&T call to find out if they're open.  I was in Dallas last summer and stopped by only to find they were closed for vacation.  I checked their website before I went and there was no mention of them being closed that week.
