Rumor, Rumor, Rumor!

Again I repeat there is a RUMOR here about 25-miles north of Concord, NC that there is suppose to be some kind of event in Concord at Lionel's new distribution center/ die-cast head quarters.  Again a RUMOR right now but a local is trying to get more info.  This rumor so far has come from two different Sources that have absolutely no connection to each other.

Rumor!

While it started today I guess this qualifies. The Train Stop in San Dimas California has increased the discounts throughout the store. Everything in the store with the following exceptions is now 30% off. That includes Lionel, MTH, K-Line, LGB, REA, Athearn, Bachmann, Williams ETC. Lionel and other locomotives are 25% off. American Flyer (new) is 40% off. Collectables are 30% off. Their Christmas hours are Wed to Sat 10 to 5, Sun 11 to 3. They are doing mail order, and accept Visa and Master Card or cash. All sales final! No returns! The phone number is 909-599-2602. Web site is www.trainstop.com. The web site is no being maintained due to technical issues in the site, so do not rely on the in stock list. Call or email.

Their stock is still incredible with over 1000 pieces of Lionel rolling stock, and 200 plus locomotives. There is even a Grand Central Station that is now 30% off. One heck of a deal when you consider there were only 250 made and the discount was around 15 percent off the MSRP. If you are looking for anything give them a call.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Regards,

Randall

I live in very rural part of West Virginia. 1000 square mile county with about 1000 year round residents. These folks were 'outsiders' .......

Oh. So she was right.

AMC Dave, must say we get the opposite. "Do you really live here? You guys are so lucky." What we love is people always seem to be smiling and glad their here. They always want to know two things. What's it like living here and do you get island fever? It's wonderful and the longer we'er here the more we don't want to go back to the mainland. Nov. 15 was a year for us already.  Don

By the way, West Virginia is a beautiful place. Their loss if they don't see it.

It's all a matter of perception!  I visited a nearby well-known train shop this afternoon knowing that they didn't have any formal Black Fiday sales, and the place was EMPTY for the couple hours I was there.

I think the marketplace has pretty much conditioned most of us to migrate toward sales and bargains.  Heck, I even learned that right here on the for-sale forum!!!

Nonetheless, it did seem somewhat strange to be in one of Lionel's larger dealers today, and not see the place packed to the gills with people as I've seen it prior years.  Blame it on the economy... Blame it on the store's lack of "special discount sales today"... Blame it on whatever you want.  I just think we've grown accustomed to seeking out the best bang for our dollar more now than ever.  And today's visit to the train shop proved that in spades.

I walked out with just one piece of rolling stock to make my visit worthwhile.  Had they been running some serious Black Friday sales, I most likely would have walked out with two locomotives as well.

David

Was staying near times Square to see the Macy's Thanksgiving day parade !! GREAT

And explore the city. Checked out a few stores then back for Black friday.

Toys R Us had G scale battery New Bright Christmas train I think about $40 and Lionel Polar Express G for about what was it ??? $70 or something. And the only other trains at the Times Square store were little wooden plastic and diecast some on sales.

Disney store had no trains that I could see, (At the Disney park they had a Mickey G battery set with plastic track)

Macy's no Lionel Thanksgiving day box car that I could find real fun trying to move through that store. A Toys R us express in basement.

Took the subway from the madness of Downtown Newyork crushing crowds to Trainworld a bit over a half hour from downtown right to store.

Pretty quiet here in store a few customers  but there bank of phone operators was busy taking calls Black friday sale was over on Saturday. Picked up a few things I wanted but did not want to much in the luggage to fly with, airport screening had a good look at the TIU I bought.

Was treat visiting Trainworld 1st visit, order lots on line at the annual sales.

So neat seeing the set up a few things on display room of photo operators and huge massive warehouse stacked shelves of everything you see on line.

Other then that I saw no real train sets ( other then battery sets with plastic tracks)  in any stores in downtown New York!!!

...

I don't believe there's been one for a few years now.    Would have been a nice tradition.  Best ones were 2007 and 2008 as I recall.  The graphics design on the last one (2009?) paled in comparison to the prior years' cars.  So all in all it was a fairly short-lived partnership.

So they sell trains in the stores but not online?

Yes, the backyard stores have the trains. Last weekend they were 40% off which wasnt good news for the LHS(s) here.  Back in their day, Fortunoff used to have some pretty elaborate holiday displays with Lionel Trains and Dept 56 village items.
