Any fix for the LIONEL EP-5 Pantograph pin break??

One of the most common problems with this model - the pins that orient the pantograph - break...

Its so easy to do - I hate it!

Its such a terrible design!

Was there ever a fix? So many specimens are broken!

Do the newer models suffer this same defect?!

I have a Williams EP-5 - that is better in every way - but it stores in the box - "pants on"

However - I still like the looks of the LIONEL EP-5 leading a train...4 wheel trucks and all!

But this drives me nuts! - I'm afraid to own these things!
