I have several spare electronic boards from Williams diesels. They seem to consist of an electronic reversing board and a Tru-Blast sound board. I would like to separate the Tru-Blast sound board and install it in a passenger car behind an MPC Lionel GG1. Has any one successfully been able to use the sound electronics in a "stand alone" application and if so how is it done?

Red wire to center rail, black wire to outer. Not much to it really. You may have to cut a connector off to get the bare wires, but that's about it.
You could probably fit them right into the GG1 itself if you wanted. Just tap in to the power wires from the pickups.
You do have to watch that you get the red wire to the center rail and black to the outer, because you'll be ringing the bell when you push the horn button otherwise.
Sounds pretty simple but I assume that you just use the small PC board that is the sound board and separate it from the larger electronic e unit board. Fitting the speaker, a baffle and the PC board in the GG1 cab should be possible but it may be a tight fit. I am planning to use it in a MPC GG1 that has the large A/C "pulmore" motors. Space is more limited in those
I have taken off the ends, and placed it inside a PA dummy. The original W horn quit, so I just placd it in the dummy. Did not want to upset electronics in the powered unit.
I cannot see why you caoul not use this inside a building, like the old PW/MPC Lionel sheeds.
You could wire it into a "house car" and run it behind the G. If you are running passenger, a REA box or refer woulod work, with trucks which an be used for wiring.

I've thought about doing this myself with a diesel horn shed I picked up at York a couple years ago. I've never heard a Tru-blast until recently when I gave my grandson the dummy Williams EP-5 I had not realizing the sound unit was in it. He put it behind his Polar Express around the Christmas tree and when he hit the whistle button it scared the living c**p out of everyone!

You can put it in a building, or wherever you can find to put it. You just have to power it with a post on the transformer that has a whistle button.
I had the board from my 773 hudson in my K-Line suburban station for awhile, but haven't used it in awhile. Worked good too.
If you run TMCC Conv, you can hit the horn/whistle button on the Cab-1, and it will blow!
