Rich, thanks for the new "no replies" rule to the FOR SALE forum. This will really improve it.
I respectfully suggest that it be applied to the 'WANTED TO BUY' forum as well. I have seen many listings there turn to discussion topics and it has occasionally soured a potential sale for me.

I disagree. Questions posted in response to items posted on the for sale forum often clarify just what is being offered.

There can be no replies to posts on the For Sale Forum now. If you need more information about the item, you'll have to use email.
Good point.
I do like some of the reply's when a information source is given, but I could always open a topic in the correct forum for that same information.
I m sure that Rich is tired of policing everything, people just got to follow the rules and adhere to the policies,
if they need to start a post then it should be under the correct topic.
I am aware of that, Honourable Webmaster, and since it's your $$, you have the say. but don't agree it's the optimal course of action. To save storage space, why not completely remove all sale threads from the forum 30 days after initial post? I never saw bumping as being a real problem.
This has absolutely nothing to do with saving disc storage space. That's simply not a factor in this at all.
It has everything to do with people abusing the For Sale Forum by getting friends to post "Email sent" or asking a questions about the product or engaging in conversations about the product being offered...which continually bumps the thread to the top of the forum at the expense of others who were following the rules! Bumping WAS becoming a problem because of a few who were abusing the privilege.
By eliminating replies, no one can abuse the For Sale Forum any more. Conversations about the product offered can take place via email, which was the way it was supposed to work in the first place.

Not true. You can't bump a post anymore. The original poster can edit his post, but editing it does not push it back to the top.
The "No Replies" feature has been implemented on the Wanted to Buy forum.
I like the new policy much better Rich. Question. What if someone doesn't put their email in their profile? Could you perhaps post a thread reminding people that they need to have an email if they want to sell on the forum?

If the potential seller doesn't know enough to provide an eMail address in his personal profile, then they are wasting their time posting ANYTHING for sale. I seriously doubt that any sort of reminder would help such a person.

I respectfully disagree. I have seen several post in the for sale area without an email address. Largely it is done by relatively new forum members.
well then they aren't reading the tos about the buy/sell area. too bad for them

Do you mean that they don't have an eMail contact in their "Personal Profile"? Wonder how they expect to sell anything. Reading and comprehension of the Terms of Service would be appropriate.
For what ever reason some people don't put their email address in their profile. The only thing is its frustrating if you see something you want like I did tonight and can't get in touch with the seller. I did get him a message on another forum and he said he changed it. Just kind of a PITA to get in touch with the person but I still agree with the rule.
I actually have multiple emails that I have used.As a mater of fact I have one primarily dedicated for the ogr forum.I personally believe if your on the computer the first thing you most definitely need is email so you can communicate with fellow members.
I'm pretty sure an email in your public profile is not required. The TOS only specify an email for the personal profile which is can't be accessed by anyone but the forum administrators.
That being said if you're actively buying and selling a current email is a necessity.
Some common sense is required here. If you're trying to sell something, anywhere.... you have to have your contact info available if you want to sell it. No one should have to remind you of that. The term "common sense" still applies here.... it is NOT that difficult. Put it in your profile, or put it in the thread... its lemonade man, read it!

Marty, you are correct in that an email address in your public profile is not required here. However, if someone wants to sell something here, "Basic Principles of Selling 101" tells us that customers have to be able to find you in order to buy something from you. As Doug said in the post above this one, that's just basic common sense.
Unfortunately, that's a commodity that is becoming very scarce these days.
So a for sale post can be updated without it being bumped?
Is that how a seller lets us know that an item is sold?
The seller can update the title with "sold" or "sale pending". They could just delete the post all together too.
