Just curious if anyone here knows the best source to obtain high-resolution digital files of the Lionel 1950's-style poster graphics like the classic Dad/Son along with LIONEL across a red/yellow sunset.  I have access to a wide-format printer, and I'd ultimately like to create art deco style backdrops that could be "wall-papered" onto large wall surfaces.  I recall Clark Dunham did this type of thing on a custom-built layout that was featured in OGR magazine several years ago.

Thanks, in advance, to anyone who can point me in the right direction.

Saw a repo of a small, 36 inch tall, Postwar Lionel dealer poster for sale for $40 at York. I was tempted but passed. Saw an original very large one for sale in the white hall for over $3K. Someone also reproduced one of the large,   3 or 4 foot by about 6 foot, PW ones a couple of years ago and had them for sale for around $200.

I think in both cases the repos were a little smaller than the originals to avoid issues with copyright.

Just to be very clear about this... I'm not looking to circumvent copyright issues at all.  That's precisely why I was inquiring about availability of the high-res digital file(s), so that I could size the image(s) accordingly for my personal needs (i.e., creating a wallpaper background).  I'm not looking to further distribute the files and/or images.

Are these images even generally available that way?  Thx...

I don't have a problem paying for the appropriately sized digital file(s).  Aside from copyright infringement, the problem with scanning the catalog-sized cover image is as you suspected... compromised output in the enlargement process.  Software exists to help mitigate this, but I'd rather start with a better source file -- if that option exists, that is.

David, as a current professional photographer and myself as a former "retired?" one, we are cognizant of and value the sanctitude of copyright and its importance. I know with the numerous photo sessions I've done I don't want clients scanning and copying my prints as you likely don't allow clients or condone them to duplicate your work via unauthorized scanning and printing.
That said, A few years back I'd contacted Lionel in an effort to trace down the copyriight holders of various catalog photos so as to contact them to purchase copies of their original Lionel negatives but to no avail. Thus this has been on the back burner for me so if you get any further than I did please post what your efforts accomplished.
Thanks.

TM Books did a series on Lionel trains. VOL VI was on Advertising and Art. Look on page 77 and you will see the reproduced poster that was for sale at York. After seeing the poster in the book I'm sorry I did not buy it. Anyway on pages 76 and 78 they show two other posters as well.

You might contact them to see if the images are available or if they have some that were used in their other publications.

The other source might be Angela Thomas. Why, because she has reproduced several of the posters in her prints.

Trainman9, although the reproductions were smaller than the original copyrighted art source, the original copyright was nonetheless still in effect with the originarl source protected. To sell them they must have been granted permission, thus avoiding illegal reproduction and sale. If someone themself were to make wallet sized copies of an 11x14 portarit I took rather than ordering it from me it would still be a violation of copyright.
