As most of you know, I am building an N gauge RR. it's all Kato including the rolling stock. The reason that I went with Kato was because my favorite things are a GG1 &  double  crossovers. The transformers & controls are also Kato. I built a stream using enviro tex lite, & now I just completed a mountain. For the first time  I used plaster cloth & rolled up newspapers, & masking tape. One thing I have to say is, boy, what a mess putting on those wet cloths. They want to curl up on you. The and result is, it came out great. Now I have to paint it.  I have built many O gauge RR's, but this is my 1st N gauge rr. For you guys that don't know, I am 85 years old.

I received two Backmann N scale K-4 locomotives today.  I only have one negative.  They are beautiful, especially the one in Brunswick green: yellow pin stripes on the wheels, on the tender too, red and yellow.  (In what era did PRR decorate their K-4s this way?  It's beautiful!)  Automatic couples on ther tender and on the engine front also!  For double heading.  For once I don't have to add pilot couplers in N Scale.  Overall size great- somewhat larger than Model Power N scale USRA Pacifics, just as one would expect.  Heavy on weight too, mostly metal, results in great pulling power. And smooth running, even at high speed.   Here's the negative, the drivers seem to be undersized.  I measure 72 or 73 inches diameter.  They match the Model Power Pacifics in size, but smaller than the Kato SP Daylight Northerns.  K-4s should be 80" diameter I believe.  I do get them up to 100 mph on my main line through the Indiana flatlands, but the drivers look frantic.  I highly recommend these engines overall if one can overlook the driver diameter.

(I'm an O Gauge Lionel Legacy guy with a 7' x 22' N Scale layout to run "entire trains in scale".  Also to be able to afford a greater variety of rolling stock!)
