I have a PS2 Big Boy 20-3228-1 with distorted sound. One of the rechargeable AA batteries is totally dead (0 volts), the other shows 1.35v under no load. The strap over the battery inside the tender says replace only with Rechargeable 1.2v 700mAh. I have Rechargeable 1.2v 2300mAh batteries on hand. With the LHS closed for the long Labor Day weekend and train buddies arriving tomorrow, I don't have the option to purchase MTH replacement batteries. Is there any danger installing the Rechargeable 1.2v 2300mAh batteries.

That might overload the charger, though I'd think not.
One thing you might try on that totally dead battery. Try giving it a "hot shot" from a bench DC supply. Crank it up to 5V and briefly connect it to the battery. That will frequently get them charging properly again.
All you need is for it to last until Tuesday.
Thank you GRJ. The "Hot Shot" revived the dead battery and it is now charging properly. Thanks again!!!!
Probably a good idea to replace it, but that's what I do to get them running until I have that replacement.
You can use any of the 1.2V AA NiCad or NIMh batteries you can get at walmart, or RS etc... for that engine. Makes it easier. G
