yes take the battery out of the engine and charge it up , if you are monitoring the current draw and it exceeds the charging limit ,another words if the battery suddenly is getting hot it probably is defective, or your charger is over charging and will damage even a new battery.in PS 2 DCS engine the battery is a 2.4 volt if I remember right, so you could use a 3 volt charger and leave it on for a while maybe a couple hours, then test in in your engine or put a load on the battery and see if for instance 1 light put 3 volt on the charged battery and it should stay lit for quite a while , if your battery goes dim quickly your batter y is defective and needs to be replaced. you can purchase 2.4 volt batteries on eBay and there not very expensive.
