Does the RFG brand smoke work just AF trains, or will it also work with post-war lionel?   I have 5 year bottle of MTH smoke, but it is more black in color than white.   Not sure if it is due to age.  Am wanting the classic AF white smoke w cedar scent.

Any other recommendations would be appreciated.

Thanks!

For postwar Lionel, many good options exist:

Repro smoke pellets- just like the originals from what I've been told. They leave a white resedue in the stack just like the old ones as well.

Smoke fluids - Using 4-8 drops in a pellet smoke unit works great. I use lionel premium fluid.
Others swear by Megasteam.

Have also used Supersmoke and liked the cedar smell but the smoke volume was reduced compared to the fluids above

Any residue is easily cleaned. Just push it back down into the smoke pot and it will dissolve and make more smoke.  The currently made smoke pellets do seem to work and smell just like the original Lionel ones.
Years back, Kline made smoke pellets. They were sold in pill bottles. They worked OK, but I found their odor to be rather unpleasant. Those pellets still turn up at train shows from time to time.
