Big Boy 4012 Returned to Display at Steamtown

By the way, 4006 in St. Louis has cab access (or at least had the last time I was there) even though 4012 doesn't, albeit several hundred miles west.

These two pics (taken 6/21/2001) don't show the cab interior, but they do highlight the steel stairways that are/were in place to access the cab, one on each side.  The first one also includes me and my crew, back in the day:

She was in fairly good shape back then as well.

Ahh, to be about 20 years younger right now ...

Not the biggest fan of the fair food, but if you’re in town and like Italian food, I would highly recommend  Sambuca Grill on Penn Avenue (not far from the site of La Festa on Courthouse Square). It’s not that big, so reservations are a good idea.

The 540,000 weight on drivers determined the crew's rate of pay, presumably.  Higher weight, higher pay.  Put on the cab side so as to preclude pay complaints? Don't know how crew pay rates were calculated in the diesel age, as a 4 unit F7 would have something like 988,000 lbs weight on drivers.
