Thanks for posting the video.  When I first saw it, I thought it was another Halloween fantasy item, but a little research proved otherwise - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/...Neon_Crossing_Signal

I did not realize how the lights worked on that accessory.  Also, Lionel's website indicates that it has sound (as did the real thing), but I couldn't pick it up in the video.  What do you think of the sound?

You should be able to just add an isolated section to the adjoining track and wire the isolated rail to the isolated rail of the track with the gate.  I can't test this out right now, but I believe it to be the case.  I will verify when I get home.

I have no isolated sections ..I cut the wires for power and wired them to the 153R

4 track mainline so need activation for trains coming in both directions. Can time of crossing activation be more than 5 seconds...I run 20+ car freight trains.

Look into Azatrax D2T -DS. It is less than the cost of one 153 i.r. and it will sense trains across multiple tracks if the 2 pairs of i.r. sensors are mounted to detect  across the track.

Sensors can be located 3ft from the crossing to allow the crossing to trigger earlier, and stay on longer after the train passes.

I'm currently using this setup to operate an Mth crossing with bell over 2 tracks with trains in either direction.

It's a relatively easy setup with color coded wires. No added relays or other components are needed.

Here's a brief demonstration:
