I wonder how this would work for 3-rail?
I saw that as well and I found it very interesting. I think it totally applies to 3 rail for people running Atlas or MTH track (either Realtrax or Scaletrax) for the outside rails. I guess with the center rail you would apply the graphite (a very light coat) directly on top of the rail instead of the inside edges. I assume this would slow down wear on the center rollers. I don't know if this idea would apply for other kinds of of 3 rail track since the other types of track are not made of Nickel Silver. I want to try the graphite idea on my track. I won't be using bright boys or alcohol anymore on my track. I am glad that someone actually looked into track cleaning from a scientific point of view and found out actually what is happening and why we were cleaning our track so often.
One issue is a lot of track is not that easy to reach, so applying this fix might be pretty difficult for many. I've actually found that a good way to clean my track is to run trains on it.
