Thanks Vern and Dallas.
The A&A was a local railroad where I grew up. The PGE was a random set I pulled from my decal pile!
My wife works more hours at her business than I do at my job, so I get to pick up the slack with the household chores…mowing is one of the easier jobs!

(I found this car on display at the North Carolina Railroad Transportation Museum) it’s Shiny like new)
Thanks Larry.
Retired a few weeks ago, looks like the museum would be a good stopping place!
Unfortunately, gas prices and people in power are destroying our way of life.
Well here we are in BxCrSun again, a beautiful sunny and HOT!! day in central Texas. Today I have something rather neat, but I was not sure where in the posting it might fit. Its (partially) a box car and partially something else. You all have heard of "salesman's" samples I am sure, well this isn't that BUT it is close, a memorial / celebratory display plaque for a very famous brand that includes an O'guage boxcar. So I didn't know whether to post it on "box car" Sun or on "buying anything cool..." so I decided to do both (LOL). I purchased this at a local "antique" store just yesterday for a very modest sum (less than the cost of the box car alone).
Here is what I would call the 80th Anniversary Celebratory Display for the John Deere Plow Company of Columbus Ohio. It is a "6400" series, K-line boxcar. Its a really nice basic car with die cast fully spring trucks and auto couplers on both ends. Its mounted on what appears to be a piece of 3-rail Gargreaves track with the center rail just pulled out for realism I suppose. The mounting board is a solid slab of maple, well finished. The car is very likely custom finished, by whom I don't know.
Here is a view of the marking plaque, showing a celebration date of about 30 years ago.
Here is the logo / company name end of the livery, with the well known Deere "running deer" logo.
Here on the sliding door, both sides are the same, is a listing of their major products as well as a number "759101" which may or may not have any significance ( I do not know the significance if there is any).
The wonderful, mature antler head of the John Deere logo deer along with the letters "J D P C" (John Deere Plow Company).
Top view showing roof detail.
Well there you are Box Car friends, it was a truly unusual piece. By the way, the car is just bolted to the base, so I can run it like an ordinary box car on the layout if I wish, the couplers are Lionel compatible.
Here's hoping everyone has a happy and healthy week
Best Wishes
Don

NICE Dave . First time I've seen one of these GM&O 50 foot boxcars.
Wow, I knew my Texan friend, @Don McErlean would catch up with Box Car Sunday, (It’s hot here in middle Tennessee to) and the John Deere box car is so cool, a great find and it’s well detailed, K-Line made a lot of quality products, I wish they were still in business today. SIRT, thank you and I’m glad you are retired now, maybe our paths will cross soon. Well, stay cool and Happy Railroading Everyone.

WOW what great cars everyone! You all are really going to make me work now! I went out to get a photo for today and guess what? There are no box cars on the layout! I will have to get my rolling storage bin out and see what I can get ready for next Sunday!
Larry - thanks for the comment on my (rather unusual) John Deere boxcar and display. I liked your "splash of yellow" this post with the MKT maintenance car and that looooooooong Frisco box car! Last post I also liked seeing the actual Southern "wave" boxcar. I have a Lionel example but it was hard to believe there actually was a 1:1 prototype.
Best wishes

Mike, you've got to get the supply chain moving on your layout!
Well here it is again, Box Car Sunday and a great day it is for sure. Dave Ripp - that is some boxcar. I loved the slogan..."We ship when the need arises". Lionel really pulled out all the "tongue in cheek" stops for that one. GREAT CAR! SIRT - neat cars but what really interested me, since I model in the Savannah area, was the "Savannah and Atlanta" RR logo, a railroad I had not known existed. I looked it up and there it was a 140+/- railroad from Savannah to Atlanta the ran up until 1951. Trumptrain - great pictures - thanks for posting.
I will follow trumptrain's lead this morning and post a double door automobile car as well. This one for the New Haven RR , dating from 1956 and made by Lionel. Its the Lionel # 6468-25 made between 1956-1958. This car came is several variations of its livery. This version has the black "N" and a white "H" with the "N" being only half serif. It was made in other combinations, one just reversed the black and white letters and there are versions of both half serif and full serif. This version dates the car from 1956.
In the side view, you will note that the double door opening is not centered. In fact it is one-two body panel(s) closer to the "N H" end of the door than it is to the lettering side. The doors on this car are black, there is a much more rare version with tuscan doors.
Bit of history...according to the Kalmbach publication, " Railroading and the Automobile Industry", starting in the 1920's railroads carried almost 70% of new car delivery traffic using cars like the double door above. However improving roads coupled with modern truck auto carriers eroded this business and had taken almost all this business away by 1950 when nearly 89% of new car delivery went by truck. Then in 1960 the first auto rack rail cars appeared, able to carry up to 15 cars at first and more later, they again reversed the trend and today almost all longer distance (200 miles +) auto delivery transport is by rail. However, these double door boxcars represent that earlier era. Lionel, Marx and American Flyer in the postwar years would also made auto rack cars for modelers to keep up to date.
Here is the RR name end of the car along with the car data. Note that the number under the NH in white is the Lionel product number 6468-25 just without the "-".
Here is (I think) the "cool" end of the car with that dominant "N H". This color scheme is always a stand out on both rolling stock and locomotives. Whenever I run a "New Haven" loco or car on my little railroad its always easy to spot.
Best wishes everyone, happy BxCrSun to all. May you all have a healthy and happy week.

Mark - our posts dropped in such that I could not see yours until after I finished mine. Just wanted to say those are really neat cars with really crisp lettering and symbology. Never heard of Mr./Ms. Sikorski but they seem to do a great job. One question, are the KMT couplers on their cars compatible with Lionel?
Best wishes

Yes Don, they couple up fine with Lionel, MTH, K-Line, CMP, and Weaver. Interestingly enough, I went to grammar school with a young lady named Sikorski. I’m tempted to call!

Hey Mark! - LIke it "couldn't hurt" - might get a discount on your next custom job
Don
@Krieglok : Not sure if this is the right protocol but I went to college in New Brunswick, NJ right along the Raritan River. I know you custom decorate cars don't know if you do it for customers, but I would be interested in a Raritan River RR box car if you did take on orders. It would have to be a 40 footer for me since my layout won't handle a 50 foot or larger. If this makes any sense to you I am at dpmcerlean@gmail.com in the directory.
Don
Hi Don.
Sure I could do that one. They did have 40’ cars and they were either plain Boxcar Red or Boxcar Red with a white stripe, with appropriate lettering and logo.
I would just need to source the decals to create the car. I would love to do a couple as I am familiar with that railroad!
