Donnie that's a mighty nice train that went together really quickly.  Just like Atlas hit it out of the park with those 40' reefers K-line was scoring with many of their cabooses, bay window, extended vision and if memory serves me they even made a NYC with the bay window stopping just below the windows, kind of like a half bay.

K-Line billboard reefers are awesome as well.

Well, I made a hit on this old KTM 2-4-4-2 electric loco. It is jut a single motor and I guess will be like the 4-6-6-4 electric project I also have but this one is in one piece!  I'm not used to buying stuff in one piece..  I guess i also got this early Mi Loco Hudson project as well, can't remember if I posted about it here or not lol..

Not sure about this but I think you are the King of Projects ! 👍👍  I’ll be interested in seeing the end result of the box cab project. If I can,  I’ll add to your project list by suggesting that you build a catenary system for it .👍

Although I’ve been back home from my 13 month sabbatical helping my brother after surgery, I’ve had very little train time in the last 2 months. HOWEVER… seems that it hasn’t stopped me from accumulating more trains!!! So here’s a catalog of fairly recent purchases.

First up, over the last few years I’ve been purchasing paintings from a local artist who did NYC Subway themed paintings. Unfortunately, she retired, but agreed to do two more paintings for me (haven’t had a chance to hang them yet).

Next up, two unibody tankers cars from the good folks at TCA - really nice graphics!!!

There is something I find very appealing about the “butter dish” milk cars. This is a recent Lionel issue (don’t they look like a BL-2 ).

And here’s one of the latest Lionel Camelbacks (hadn’t planned on getting one of these, but I couldn’t resist a line that ran through my neck of the woods). I really have to stop looking at Gryzboski’s website

Well I was at a train show in Plano, Texas last weekend and I saw this flatcar with two trailers under the livery for BP.  I don't really have any TOFC type cars on the layout so (for $15) I took it home.  In researching the car, its Lionel, I found somewhat of a mystery.  It is LTI or LLC I am sure but it is numbered with an old Lionel post war flat car number, 6424.  It is certainly not identified with this number in any of my references.  After considerable research, I find that I cannot find this car in any listing that I have.  In Solly's book on the Richard Kughn era, 1987-1995 Solly mentions that LTI sort of abandoned the rational numbering scheme and dumped these TOFC flatcars into whatever series had an opening.  Solly also mentions that LTI sometimes (confusing the issue even more) returned to the post war 6424 number.  Solly points out that some of these cars appeared in the 16300 series and some in the 16900 series but alas not this one.  So the mystery remains.

At any rate, here is my new BP TOFC flatcar made by Lionel (under some number at some time )

Our central plant had 2 600 HP International Boiler Works and 1 400 HP Cleaver Brooks boiler. I'm very familiar with what they look like. The IBW's came to us from the Brooklyn Navy Yard after WW II. They were surplus Liberty Ship Boilers.

@pennsyfan and @RSJB18 - For some reason the video will not open on my system however, Marx only made one "Hudson" i.e. a 4-6-4 locomotive and that was the #1829.  This locomotive has a plastic boiler and the number "1829" cast on the boiler front and on both sides of the cab.  For Marx it has an interesting linkage including an eccentric linkage.  It had boiler head detail in the cab and thin spoked drivers.  It was certainly one of Marx's premium offerings in fact Marx only made 2 steam locomotives with six drivers, the 1829 and the 333.  It was first offered in 1953.  If you have the set number (would most likely be on the box) I have some data that can tell you the original contents of the set.

My son did some checking for me. It’s a 4-6-2.
The number on the set box is 35250. The vista dome and coach are 234 the observation is Meteor. All NYC. From what I found on the internet the engine is number 333.

@pennsyfan-  IMHO you have an absolute winner.  I believe the 333 was the best looking and most accurate of all Marx's steamers.  It was created by Marx to directly compete with Lionel's mid-range die cast steamers but at a lower price point.  Its a super locomotive.  Now lets look at "set 35250"  My Marx reference shows that the contents of your set, trains wise, is completely correct.  You should have the 333 locomotove and its die cast tender, I emphasize this tender as it is unique, made by Marx especially for the 333 locomotive, and the ONLY die cast tender Marx ever made.  This is indeed a lucky find.  The cars all appear correct, all NYC, and they are #234 coach and vista dome and #236 observation.  It also came with 16 pieces of 034 track and a #1249 transformer of 50 Watts (big for Marx).  IAW my reference the cars are metal, scale with low trucks and tilt automatic couplers (often called the "pickle fork" coupler).  It was listed in the 1951-1952 Allied catalogue.

Bob, you made a very correct decision to obtain this set.  It is one of the very best passenger sets Marx put out and the train itself is just an absolute beauty.  FYI the 333 is considered Marx's most sophisticated locomotive and was offered 1949-1958. The tender, #3991, is the only die cast tender Marx made and was made specifically to accompany the #333 locomotive.  It was marked "New York Central" and made between 1949-1954.

Best of luck with your new set and congratulations on a super find!

No guys, read my message.  I refer to BOTH the pullman and the Vista Dome as # 234 with the observation #236.  Sorry for any confusion.  Obviously the picture is correct.

OBTW...Note that the silhouette's in the windows are in color and not in "shadow" like Lionel and some others.  It was always rumored that these silhouette's represented real people in Marx's business or customers or maybe even Hollywood.  Never confirmed but you can look and speculate!!

As far as the NYC never having dome car's...C'mon fellas these are TOY trains, the kids wanted dome cars, they looked cool, so dome cars they got
