I have been fiddling with the car trying to fix or reduce the noticeability of my mistakes. I was able to tighten the door hangers and handles with epoxy from behind. I bought yellow paint in a can to brush on. It is looking better. No more mistakes, I am waiting 24 hours to do the other side.
I have enough decals for three cars and plan to make one more once I find a suitable donor car.
George
Maybe this will teach MH to mess with us! Just kidding.
Great job George! You got your decals quickly! I better get a reefer to repaint!

I hope we aren't driving up the price of 2814r cars. I saw a plain MTH go for $93 on eBay yesterday! I got in before the market ticked up and got mine in the mid-fifties. There are always deals to be had if you are willing to work a bit, though. I picked up and beat up original yesterday for $35! Seller should have used an auction...

Were you selling or couldn't you make up your mind. You have to jump on those when they are listed Buy it Now. It couldn't have been listed very long.

naw...just messing with Dennis George. If I had seen a 2814r for $35 I woulda tossed a bid on it.

Thats how I got my two brass Williams K4's, buy it now, $75 & $139. Also got my 227 scale switcher that way for $125. You just have to swallow hard and buy it.
Another 249E project for $29. So I just put an opening bid on it early and no one else bid. o motor included, but the frame is good and the cow catcher is good. I have a few of these motors, so I should be able to put it back together. I needed this like another hole in my head though!

Looks like it is missing something in the middle, but I just can't place it.
On the bright side, it has both jewels!

It's an Earth conscious green locomotive. Wind powered. Missing the sail I guess as well!

that's cause I've been busy putting the runner back together and the one time I ebayed I got a car from Steve Eastman. Put some more time in your Falcon....you need more hole in yer head like I do Dennis.... Although with all the Flyer cars that have been showing up at my door I might hafta get serious about looking for a locomotive for them....
At the TTOS SW Division meet today I picked up this really sharp Lionel 251 with original box. Consulting my new Greenberg Guide (Lionel O Gauge Volume I: 1915-1928), I found it is the 1929 variant with Type 6 motor. It looks to be original except for having Bowser replacement wheels installed along with some new wires inside. Whomever installed the wheels did a nice job, but the replacements are a spoked variety instead of the original disc type. It runs great, the pendulum type reverse unit works perfectly. It appears to have had very low mileage- it has the phenolic intermediate gears, but they look to be in perfect shape. Interestingly however it's so tall that (in common with my Lionel 256) it doesn't quite fit under all of the "low clearances" on the layout. Inside the box was an original instruction sheet. See photos below.
Wow John, nice find. Dennis, looks like you've got yourselves a neat project!

Great pick up John. There were quite a few forum members at the meet yesterday.

Got a couple of cars to repaint, sorry, I needed a 2814 Reefer for my new Goetz decals, much like the one George created. Now I just have to find the paint. Haven't located the Krylon Georgia red clay color locally yet!

You got a good deal on that. You're lucky because I was thinking about bidding on it.
George
lol, I was wondering if you were going to honestly! Thank you for letting me have it I got and a regular MTH 2814 boxcar for about $75 shipped. Did you finish up your Goetz car yet?

The first one is done. I have another in the wings that I want to have more of a factory finish. I'll start it in a few weeks.
George
Picked up this Roberts Lines caboose a few weeks ago, but it was missing the cupola roof. A little galvanized flashing and solder and it’s good.

So is that 'Georgia Clay' color a good match for 'Boxcar Red' (what Floquil used to call that brownish color that many boxcars were painted in the 40's and early 50's)? Anybody got a good rattle can match for PRR Tuscan Red (or Brunswick Green for that matter?)

Judging from George's first reefer repaint, the Georgia clay looks to be a pretty decent flat brown/red like as used as boxcar red or reefer red. On the PRR colors, I've still not seen anything real close. I do have some of the FLoquil colors for the red and green but have yet to try and air brush them.

Maybe all the PRR nutz out there could talk Harry Henning into working up colors for both PRR red and green

I was trying to match the color of the MTH Goetz reefer picture. MTH used a Tuscon color roof on an 814r white car they made, but it was satin finish. I wanted gloss to match the prewar era finishes. I would say it looks close to Tuscan, maybe just a shade lighter.

The Apple Green freight express took to the rails today. A good three car consist for my #259e which recently got from the 'bay'. The 259 kinda ran when it arrived but once the shell was off- the pic says it all. A good clean and rewire- and loves the apple green.
The #831, I originally painted solid green but the color really screamed so did the running gear in black to match.

Wow!in boxed, near mint Hornby station!Must have been pricey!
Been a few Std Gauge Roberts Lines trolleys on the bay lately, but this one needs a bit tlc, just up my alley. Pretty straight and will clean up nicely. The window inserts are loose, I’ll just remove them and call it a summer trolley. Both are unpowered so the lead unit will get a Keeler truck mount motor. Another project.

Thanks for the information.
So is the signal just merely a light that is for aesthetic purposes, or am I missing some sort of lock-on that controls the signal and train movement ?
