I just bought a new camera called the Mobius  Its perfect for putting on a flat car through the layout or as a dashcam.  This is th first time I used it  Its me operating a train from 36 street in Brooklyn to Ft Hamilton pkwy.  Couple of things I learned is that I need to position it better to prevent the fish eye effect and also to clean the windshield.

This is the camera.

Just looked at your video.  Very  nice ! I didnot know your a operator for the subways. But it was nice to see freight on the bay ridge  branch and that  they fixed the track you were on once out of the tunnel it runs straight along the  endbankment .It used to curve over to the center for a block then switch over. When i took the sea beach to  High School downtown  i would see the New Haven engines  under the catenary waiting at  8 ave for

the ok to proceed into the yards at  Bay ridge.  Very  nice...

Thanks Greg

I am very partial to this spot in Brooklyn as that's where I grew up.  Used to sit on the hill at 7th ave watching trains all the time.  Saw the New Haven rectifiers and the LIRR BB3's switching the yard  Everything went to diesel in the last few years of Long Island operations.  They redid the car floats at Bay Ridge and the New York and Atlantic runs trains from Bay Ridge to Fresh pond  3 a week.  The NYNJ Rail operate the car floats to Greenville.

That track that used to curve in from the wall did so because the wall was collapsing in that spot.  It has been rebuilt.  Heard that many stations along the N from 8th ave to 86 street will be rebuilt  Trains will run on the newly refurbished northbound express track.  The southbound track doesn't have any third rail but will be rebuilt soon

I bought that camera last year. For the price (I think it was about $35) it takes really, really great quality videos. I have mounted it on top of the glareshield (dashboard) of a Cessna 172, the handlebars of my bike and on the front of a train of my O-Gauge layout. I'm waiting for them to come out with an underwater housing for snorkeling.

This will never happen again.

The house on 8th Ave was called G&R packing  There is a great history of it here http://members.trainweb.com/bedt/indloco/rbe.html  I even have a couple of photo credits  LOL

I hate when I nod off on the D or the N and miss the change to the R. Nice video - thanks for posting.

Was on the D in Manhattan a few months ago - the operator had the door propped open for some reason - lifted the camera to take a pic, but he saw me and gestured no. I put the camera away. Was surprised to see a digital speedo. Steady at 30 mph. He closed the door at the next stop.

Question  As a motorman, do you always work with the same conductor? IF not how are the pairings arranged?

When you have enough seniority you get to pick jobs every 6 months  It starts at the most senior person and works its way down to the lower seniority pond scum like me.  It could be a god thing or a bad thing getting the same conductor for 6 months.  I am part of wat they call extra list  I get jobs based on vacancies for vacations, days off, sick time or open jobs.  Its different every day

And, if you play the game right, you can make a lot dough(OT).

Hi Ben:

I spent my younger years in the 50s riding the Brighton Express from either Kings Highway on the way to Brighton Beach or to Coney Island, or from Newkirk Av. to Times Square or 57th St. In the 60s I rode it from Sheepshead Bay to work in Manhattan.  It was at the Sheepshead Bay Station that historic moment on Monday, September 14, 1964 when a set of headlights is coming towards me and a gleaming train that I never expected pulls in to my complete surprise. It was the first revenue run of the R32s.

The route of the N train has never been changed at least going back to the 50s expect that now it just goes on to Astoria but still stops at Times Square and 57th St it's original two end points in the 50s. Thanks for the video.

How about a 1950 SF story about disappearing trains called........ A Subway called Mobius by A.J. Deutsch?

The same thing crossed my mind! Thank you! One of my favorites! I hadn't seen this in years.

See, don't be tempted to add that last track siding to your already complicated layout. You might start losing things.

Yep, I don't get the lack of understanding of curved space. Why, I can have two model railroad stations miles apart and separated by a couple of inches. What's the problem?
