I have recently purchased the following 60' O-scale (~15" 1/1 scale) aluminum California Zephyr passenger cars from eBay:
Williams: CZ Diner "Silver Plate" & Sleeper "Silver Canyon". These cars are painted silver with black trucks. The "California Zephyr" letter boards are in the correct art-deco Zephyr Gothic font (same as used on the prototype). However, the "Silver ####" car name boards are in a non-prototypical font (NOT art-deco Zephyr Gothic).
Weaver: CZ Diner "Silver Banquet". This car is anodized (plated) aluminum with silver trucks. However, both the "California Zephyr" letterboards and "Silver ####" car name boards are in a non-prototypical font (NOT art-deco Zephyr Gothic).
I plan to paint the black trucks silver to match both the prototype CZ and the various Lionel & K-Line 60' aluminum CZ cars in my fleet. I may also revise the lettering to the prototypical art-deco Zephyr Gothic font (will need custom decals for this).
Does anyone know what other 60' aluminum CZ "Silver ####" car names were produced by Weaver & Williams ? I will keep looking for more variations on eBay. I am especially interested in additional diner & sleeper car names.
Although Atlas-O's 85' O-scale ABS CZ cars are wonderful, I prefer the 60' plated aluminum cars. A nice benefit of the availability of the Atlas-O cars is that the prices of the 60' aluminum CZ cars from Lionel, K-Line, MTH, Williams, & Weaver have been very reasonable in recent eBay listings. I imagine that many O-gauge folks are replacing their 60' aluminum CZ cars with Atlas-O's 85' ABS CZ cars.
Thanks in advance !
