Been wondering about a setup. I have a 2353 Santa Fe without roof mold. I have been having trouble finding just the dummy unit without roof mold. So I have compromised with myself. I have the idea of getting a 2343 power unit which includes two motors and the horn. Now will these trains run together or are they setup different? I would have 4 motors pulling a load and a horn? I know the two engines have differences but could it work?

All I can give you is my experience.

When I tied the 2343's rear to a 2353 rear, the 43 pulled the 53,,,,,,,,so I wouldn't have any success doing it. Also i believe the motors would wear out sooner.

When I ran them both in forward with eunits locked out, no problems,,,when I ran them all 4 on 1 eunit no problems either,,,,,,,,,,,,,so go figure.

All 4 make a good looking train, and pulled more passenger cars than I had at that time,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,might try that again this summer as I now have more passenger cars,

anyway, run those beautiful babies.

With all the new electronic stuff we sometimes forget the old procedures we used to use to accomplish things. This will work with any engines. Put the two engines on the track but do not couple them together. Now add cars to the faster engine until it runs the same speed or only slightly faster than the slower engine. If you need to add more cars to the train add them one at a time to each engine always keeping the speed relationship the same. When you are done couple the two engines together and couple the two sets of cars together and they will run together just fine.
