This year has been kind of choppy for me in regards to building my layout. I start, stop, start, mostly due to work. When I start again, the layoff isn't necessarily that long, but I need to get my train of thought back to what I was doing. When I'm building, I have such a clear plan for the sequence of what I want to do, but when I go back, I have to recall that focus. Man, I can't wait to retire, and spend more time working on my layout! Does this happen to anyone else?

Yep. And when i start again, it's usually not what I was working on previously.

I know what you mean John. I'm on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. I know my situation isn't unique, but I was just wondering what other folks do, if anything.

You need a good detailed plan and stick to it. Because when I was building most of our layout, I had a long commute and it was a constant stop and start. The plan helped me focus when I was able to get back to layout construction.

You're both right. Up until now, everything has been in my head. I need to make some tangible goals. Sometimes accomplishing smaller projects gives me more momentum.

I was out of town working until I retired so it took a long time to build my layout but finally got it done.
