Seriously, I understand that nobody wants a replay of the Centipede pricing fiasco.  But that was very much an anomaly IMHO.  When do you reach a point where you're happy with what you paid for something, and then just move on?  If you hear somebody else got it for $25 cheaper, are you gonna think about THAT every time you run this beast on your layout rather than just enjoy your purchase?

I couldn't agree more.  I pre-ordered mine months ago and I'm sticking with my dealer.   Having a relationship with a reliable dealer is worth much more than a few dollars (as I learned to my detriment several times!)

I'd love to see how some of these jumpers buy cars.   I would bet they don't get the absolute lowest possible price every time and are still quite happy!

David

Exactly. I ordered from my dealer, Imperial Train Company, at what I feel is a very fair price. Since then the on lines stores have offered the "best deal". Well I'm still happy with my price and the service I know I'll receive long after the sale is done and the convenience of stopping by and shopping. There is a lot beyond the price that I feel is worth it.

Nothing against most of the online forum sponsors. If I didn't have a LHS or they were not selling I would buy from one of them.  They are a LHS for someone but you are right. Somewhere you have to be happy with what you are paying.
I feel that the online stores offer a venue for those without a LHS and folks that need to buy online. But another $25 dollars?  Is that worth losing a relationship you might have garnered with a shop be it online or local.

I guess it is for some.

I'm not a mystery source.. Doesn't matter if the guy bought it at $1740.

Want to know whats not a mystery?  That dealer still made money at that price.

My dealer has it at $1840 out the door for local customers and no, they don't do M/O.

Joe.

So please tell us, why are you so reluctant to share any details?  As you say, you're new to the forum.  Maybe you don't understand the spirit of such forums.  It's for sharing information, not coming in and rubbing our noses into your "great deal".

Is that a please or pretty please and who is us?

So why would I subject that dealer to a phone barrage of curiosity seekers with no intention of ordering when I clearly stated they do "NOT take M/O?   If you live in the area you already know the place I speak of.

As good as that price is I'm not ordering one. If the #765 Berk is included with the black PM in the next catalog, I'll be ordering that.

BTW, I've been hanging around since nearly day one of the OGR forum

I don't care what you all may believe but I consider anyone posting a price and not the name of the store is full of c__p !!

If as has been said the dealers are still making a nice profit at these prices it makes no sense that a shop wouldn't want to sell as many as they can. Also seeing as these are preordered with a healthy deposit there seems to be little risk for the shop to take a few mail orders.

Like I said it's a bunch of c__pola!!

you are in Michigan, that is a pretty big state.

it does not matter whether they do mail order or not they just might want more business if they know what kind of attention they are getting here.
