Rumor in the Ohio Central Facebook group has it that the road's fleet of 9 almost 40-year old B23-S7s are set for retirement by the end of the summer. As a lover of standard cab GEs and casual fan of the Monongahela Railroad, I decided to make a point of visiting the line and catching as many of Ohio Central's fleet of nine (the largest concentration in the US) as I could before they are likely scrapped. My first trip focused on the Cambridge Turn (ZVL), which runs from the main yard of the OC's southern lines at Zanesville. On the day I arrived, I found former NS, nee-Conrail 4095 and maroon-painted GP38-3 (GP38AC) 2175 as the power for the day's train. I chased the great-sounding throwback pair from Zanesville to the outskirts of Cambridge, then caught the westbound on its return trip. Stay tuned through at least August, as I will be making one additional trip to catch the ZVL and ZVNK due to the accidental deletion of two clips.
