The molds for a few of Bachmanns On30 freight cars and the standard passenger coach have filtered out into the knock off toys market and are available at WalMart. So far the sets I've seen offer the passenger coach, lowside gondola, boxcar, caboose, and tender from the mogul. If you're into kitbashing it may make for a cheaper source of cars.

Looks like it's G-gauge
Looking at the dimensions, it seems a little larger than On30, but much smaller than G. Guess I'll have to look at the real thing.
Hmm. I'll have to go to the local Wally World to see if they have one of these sets to look at.

The local WalMart didn't have these. I don't need any more rolling stock but I was thinking the bodies of the cars might make for good structures. Also, I would like an extra tender to make a fire suppression or ROW water car out of...
IF it's a knockoff, it could be a new-brite knockoff for g scale.
I can't tell what scale it is as the loco looks way larger than the rolling stock. That's why I wanted to see it in person.
If these are the size of train I've seen in some pharmacies around Christmas, they are close to O gauge more than anything. I haven't seen the passenger cars that are in this set, but the locomotive is definitely between O and S.
The passenger car is probably the Bachmann On30 type shell. There is also a company making whole sets (1 passenger and 1 freight) that are completely On30, electrically powered and run on HO track!
For the guys wondering about the size, I ordered one of these sets off Wal-Mart and got it in a couple of days ago. These cars are molded off of Bachmann's On30 stock and they are correctly sized. The passenger coach in particular is actually impressive. They did a surprisingly good job on it and the boxcar body. The doors on the boxcar even work!
You will have to replace the trucks as they are gauged for O track and the couplers will have to be replaced as they used some sort of weird "hook and eye" system. Considering single cars are going for $30-$40 a piece these days I see as a bargin if you're looking to create your own rolling stock.
The S gauge guys out there could easily regauge the wheels on these and be ready to go as well.
Unless you already have On30 trucks on hand, by the time you buy On30 trucks to replace the ones that come in the set, the cars are not such a great bargain! Bachmann's prices on their parts is even crazier than their other prices!

Could always use the plastic wheeled MPC axles, and narrow them by pressing them in further. Then, you could use Lionel trucks.
The first thought I had seems to be the right one; this is only a value if you're going to use the rolling stock for structures or kit bashing parts.
Any pictures? I know I bought the classic trains knockoffs. When I replaced the trucks with Bachman trucks the weight increased. Now the 2-6-0 still needs a repaint.

No local walmart near me ever had these.
Oh well, I don't need any more rolling stock, especially stuff I wouldn't likely run.
Wonder if the Menards' success brought the Walled Woods back into toy trains? Sounds like these are not easy to find.....and have to be ordered?

Any info??? stock #, name....link....
I see Bachmann ON30 cars listed on Walmarts Website - they are in the $40-50 price range. But these are made by Bachmann, not someone else. I did a few searches on Walmarts site but there is a plethora of O gauge and train items to sort through.
It would be most helpful if you could post links to Walmarts website or images.
thanks!
Seriously... how about a link or a photo from those that found them. I can't seem to figure out what you guys are talking about.
Try a Google search on "Continental Express 0n30 Scale Steam Freight Train Set". No longer available?
