Does anybody ship items from China to Europe via Russia by rail? It would require 2 changes of rail gauge, one China/Russia and then Russia/Poland. "Spine" carsets might work. If it is happening, who is doing it?
Yes, it is happening. Freight from China is shipped by rail to several European countries and now reaches all the way to the UK. Here is a link to a BBC article covering the first arrival in the UK in 2017:
Note the ceremonial use of a Class 92 on a non-electrified track for the event; a GM Class 66 diesel was pushing on the hind end. 92s are used to power freight trains through the Channel Tunnel.
